For first time since the inception of the Centre for Agricultural Transformation (CAT), the Minister of Agriculture in Malawi, Honourable Lobin Lowe, M.P. attended a Farmer Field Day organized by CAT under its Science Technology and Innovation (STI) stream. The activity took place on the 14th of April 2021 at the CAT Smart Farm-LUANAR Bunda Campus under the theme “Access to Agricultural Innovations and Technologies: A key to Agricultural Transformation”. The minister, who was Guest of Honour, expressed the Malawi Government’s commitment to support the agricultural transformation agenda that CAT and its partners are pursuing. The field day aimed at showcasing various technologies at crop maturity stage from seed technologies, crop nutrition, crop protection, labor saving technologies and mechanization to farmers from Mkwinda and Mitundu EPAs. CAT Partners who showcased these different technologies included: Bayer Malawi, Seed-Co, Multi Seed Company, Pannar Seed Company, Mgommera, Environmental Industries, CIP, ICRISAT, ASSL-YARA, Agri-Input Suppliers Limited, Farming & Engineering Services, Bountifield, Standard Bank, JAT Investments and Farmers Organization Limited. The field day brought together participants of diverse backgrounds, including Researchers from Government departments and private institutions, extensionists, students, farmers, private sector, academia, financial institutions, international NGOs, members of press and others.
